The standards specify requirements for establishing an environmental management policy, determining environmental impacts of products or services, planning environmental objectives, implementing programs to meet objectives, and conducting corrective action and management review.

You will need to understand ISO and ISO if you are combining , to help you know what you need to do in your company to meet the requirements of the standard. The biggest portion of the project is looking at your current processes, and redesigning them to address all of the requirements of the standard. Once you have modified or developed processes to meet the standard, you will need to control those processes.

Documenting the processes as EMS System procedures is part of this control. Once your system is developed and documented, employees will follow the procedures, collect records and make improvements to the system. For approximately three months or more, your organization will run the EMS, collecting records. Use and improve your EMS: Is it working? You will conduct internal audits to see how your system is working and find ways to improve it.

This prepares you for an Audit by a Registrar. Environmental management may not be seen to affect sales as much, and yet it can also be expensive.

Most companies would prefer to meet regulatory requirements to the minimum and get on with their ways. Still, more and more companies have become more environment conscious too. And to some, the ISO is a good marketing tool. ISO is essentially an international consensus of good practices for quality management. It consists of various standards and guidelines for quality management systems. It also contains some supporting standards for this endeavor. The ISO certification though would be useful to companies.

It would qualify them to enter certain markets which require the certification. It is also a good marketing tool for them.
